Fall term update

General

In accordance with the LaSalle College Vancouver Library Safe Return to Service Plan, the library will be re-opening for the fall term with reduced hours and strict physical distancing and sanitation protocols.

Library facilities

The library facilities will be open for limited 6-hour periods 2 to 3 days per week and hours will be scheduled to facilitate library access for the maximum number of students according to the on-premises course schedule. Please check the hours listed on the library’s website before coming to use that library as unscheduled changes may occur.

Access

The library service desk, the printer/photocopier and 3 student workstations will be accessing during opening hours. Access to the shelved resources, group study rooms, tutoring centre, quite study areas and study pods will be restricted for the initial phase of re-opening. The maximum library occupancy will be 5 people.

Borrowing physical library materials

A closed-stack model will be implemented for physical collections circulation. Patrons will have to search resources using the library’s catalogue and make item requests in advance using the Library item request form on the library’s website or in person at the service desk. To accommodate those who are unable to come to campus during library facilities hours of operation, the campus reception desk can be selected as a pickup location.

Loan periods

Equipment such as charging cables, game consoles and game peripherals will not be circulating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Loan periods for other resource types will be extended to facilitate those who are working/studying from home and do not want to make frequent trips to campus. The following will be new temporary loan periods by patron group and resource type.

Renewals and returns

Renewal requests can me made by email or Mio message (to Ryan Kyle). Current renewal limits will continue to apply; however, accommodations can be made for those who are sick or in quarantine and cannot safely return resources by the due date. Library resources are returned at the drop box next to the service desk when the library facilities are open and in the drop box next to the library entrance after hours.

Fines

Existing fines policies will continue to apply; however, overdue fines may be partially or fully forgiven in instances where quarantine or illness prevented the safe return of library resources.
