Become a Student Library Assistant

Job Description and Duties

Student Library Assistants’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  • providing excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff 
  • checking in and checking out library materials 
  • assisting library users in finding online and physical library resources 
  • sorting and shelving returned items according to Library of Congress classification 
  • ensuring items on shelves are in proper order 
  • keeping the library space clean
  • assisting with the processing of new library materials 
  • opening and/or closing the library
  • potentially working evenings and/or Saturday
  • performing other duties and projects as assigned 

Compensation

Student Library Assistants are paid minimum wage

Qualifications

Eligible candidates must have:

  • maintain a GPA of 3.0 as a student at LaSalle College Vancouver 
  • at least 3 terms of study remaining in program
  • strong organizational and communication skills 
  • keen attention to detail 
  • ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities 
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision 
  • 2 references (employer, volunteer coordinator or instructor)

Customer service and/or retail experience is an asset. Eligible international candidates require a visa permitting work in Canada and a valid SIN number.
