Student software access

Accessing software from home

LaSalle College Vancouver is working hard to get students the software they need to complete the coursework in their respective program areas.  Instruction for the various software access options are provided in this guide. This page covers Option 1 - Installing software on your own device. Select the software you need from the list below to get instructions on how to get a free or discounted student software license.  Please visit Option 2 - Accessing software through a remote desktop for instructions on how to use software on a campus computer remotely through Splashtop, a remote access platform.

Installing software

Adobe (Creative Cloud)

Software products:

Adobe (Substance)

Software products:

Free one-year renewable student Substance license

  1. Go to the Substance Education License page
  2. Log into your existing account or create one using your student email address (ending in "@lcieducation.net")
  3. Submit a student license application with a scan of your student card or class schedule

Note: Once you have installed Substance on your computer, it is strongly recommended that you disable "auto-update" in the Create Cloud Desktop App.  If you do not, your version of Substance will become out of sync with that of the Substance installed on campus workstations. Here are instructions on disabling auto-update and installing previous versions of your Creative Cloud apps.

Free student Autodesk license

Students and educators can get free one-year educational access to Autodesk products and services, renewable as long as you remain eligible. To create your account:

  1. Go to the Autodesk Education Software Page.
  2. Click on the Get Started button
  3. Note: When filling out your information, be sure to use your student email address (ending in "@lcieducation.net").
  4. Log into your student Office 365 or Outlook account and find the "Verify your Autodesk account" email.  If it is not in your Inbox, check the Junk Email folder.
  5. Click on the VERIFY EMAIL button and Select the software from the list
  6. Check your information is correct (you must use your student email address as proof of eligibility) and click CONFIRM

Avid

Software products:

  • Pro Tools

  1. Go to Pro Tools, Education Pricing page
  2. Choose desired subscription option
  3. Click Add to cart
  4. At check out, log into your existing or create an Avid account

Cadalog

$99 US/year SU Podium V2.6 student version

  1. Check system requirements to confirm SU Podium V2.6 will work with you operating system and SketchUp version.You may not be able to use SU Podium if you are using the 2017 version of SketchUp on a Mac.
  2. Purchase the student license of SU Podium V2.6 and follow the instructions for the plugin installation and activation.

Enscape

Free 6-month renewable Enscape license

  1. Go to the Future Creators Program page
  2. Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements
  3. submit an application using your student email address (ending in "@lcieducation.net")

Foundary student home use license

To get a student home use license for Foundry products, please follow the instructions below and activate your license key.

  1. Download these two PDF manuals. (You will be requested to log in with your school Microsoft account)
  2. Follow the instructions on the PDF manuals and activate your license key

Student Office 365 account

All active LaSalle College Vancouver students have an Office 365 account.  To access:

  1. Go to Office.com and login with your student email address (ending in "@lcieducation.net") and your Omnivox password.
  2. Select the app from the menu and use it on the browser; or
  3. You can download the suite of apps to your device by clicking on Install Office

Microsoft (Visual Studio)

Free Visual Studio Community editions

Go to Visual Studio download page and select Free download for the Community edition of Visual Studio 2019.

Pixar

Software products:

  • RenderMan

Free non-commercial license

  1. Go to non-commercial RenderMan license page
  2. Log into your existing or create a RenderMan Forums account
  3. Click on Free to Try
  4. Fill out the form and submit

Pixologic

Software Products:

  • ZBrush

Free 30-Day trial version of ZBrush

  1. Go to the ZBrush trial version page
  2. Click Try ZBrush
  3. Log into your Pixologic account of register for an account

SideFX

Software products:

  • Houdini

Free Houdini Apprentice edition

  1. Go to the Student page of Houdini Education
  2. Click on FREE APPRENTICE DOWNLOAD

Note: This edition of Houdini has the following software:

  1. node-locked license
  2. limited render size and a watermark on final renderings
  3. does not let you load Houdini Digital Assets [.hdanc] into host applications using the Houdini Engine plug-ins therefore assets you create in Apprentice would have to be loaded using Education licenses in your school lab.

Toon Boom

Unity

Free Unity student plan

Going to the Unity Student page and clicking Get access will bring you a description of the 3 steps for accessing a Unity Student plan:

  1. Authorize with Github
    1. Click on Authorize then sign in with your Unity ID; or create one by clicking create one
  2. Apply for the Student Developer Pack
    1. Go back to the Unity Student page and click on Apply
    2. Click Get your pack then sign into your GitHub account create an account by clicking Create and account (use your student email address ending in "@lcieducation.net")
    3. Fill out the Unity Student plan application form (use your student email address ending in "@lcieducation.net") and click Submit your information
  3. Activate you Unity Student plan
    1. Once GitHub verifies your access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack, you can activate your Unity Student plan and start creating.

Note:Verification of your student status can take up to a few weeks so start this process as soon as you know you will need the software.

Unreal Engine

Free Unreal Engine license

  1. Go to the Unreal Engine Download page
  2. Click Download Now for your preferred licensing option
  3. Login to Epic using the options provided or create an Epic account by clicking Sign Up
