Goal 3 strives to tackle enduring deficiencies in healthcare, enhance investments in health systems, aid nations in their recovery, and fortify resilience against future health risks. While strides have been made in advancing global health, such as a 52% reduction in global AIDS-related deaths due to effective HIV treatment since 2010 and the eradication of at least one neglected tropical disease in 47 countries, there remains inadequate headway in reducing maternal mortality and extending universal health coverage. In 2020, roughly 800 women per day lost their lives due to pregnancy or childbirth globally, and in 2019, approximately 381 million individuals were pushed into extreme poverty or further into it due to health-related out-of-pocket expenses. The onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic and persistent crises has hindered progress toward achieving Goal 3. Childhood vaccinations witnessed their most substantial decline in three decades, while deaths from tuberculosis and malaria rose compared to levels before the pandemic.
