UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Goal 11 focuses on creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements. With over half the global population living in urban areas and this figure expected to rise to 70% by 2050, cities face growing challenges such as rapid urbanization, slum growth, air pollution, and inadequate infrastructure. Currently, around 1.1 billion people live in slums, with another 2 billion projected in the next 30 years. Despite progress since 2015, including doubling disaster risk reduction strategies, issues like limited access to public transport and urban sprawl persist, highlighting the need for sustainable urban development.
